Three Rooms (2009)

Original songs based on piano and voice (including inside-the-piano work) with synthesizers, some guitars and percussion and other voices, influenced by rock, blues, world music, prog rock and Mahler, where the imagery of the words is paramount.

Written in 2008 and recorded in 2008-09. I play all the instruments. My sister, Nicole Duran, my wife, Lauren Golden, and my daughter Alyssa Regan, helped me out with some vocals. The photos were taken by Alyssa. Mark Kalinowski and Mike Tarsia helped with engineering and mastering advice. Dane Scalise was my closest advisor and he and his brother Louis provided crucial input about recording techniques over a couple bottles of wine.

It started with “Pam.” I wrote that song at the suggestion of a friend and when I did, the rest just came tumbling out. I hadn’t written songs in over 10 years at that point and it felt like a rebirth.
